Kakkad ecotourism

Kakkad ecotourism in Kozhikode. Kerala is less explored by the human beings. Kakkad is 45 Km away from Kozhikode city in the direction of Wayanad in Kozhikode,  Wayanad National Highway at Eangapuzha. It is a new eco-tourism spot situated in Thamarassery forest range. If you are a nature lover then this is the place that attracts you by the variety of birds, animals, butterflies and has numerous medicinal plants.

There is a need for a small fee to enter the forest and guide is available to explain to you the dos and don’t’s before entering the forests. Some local shops are present to purchase snacks and water. Don’t forget to keep some extra clothes and necessities with yourself because even if you decide not to jump to the water, you will jump onto the stream after seeing the rocks and waters.

Kakkad ecotourism is under the forest department. One can find a small park where both children and adults can enjoy. After enjoying a little time over there now you can get into the forests. It will take around 2 to 2.5 hrs to reach over there. The forest is rich with trees and shrubs. After traversing through the rocks we will reach near a dam. This dam is safe for swimming as it is constructed in such a way that ensures safety. Nine waterfalls and small lakes make Kakkad favourite for the travellers. Most of the visitors return back after the dam. But the exact treasure is beside the dam and it still exists as a hidden treasure.

One can find elephant, deer, goats, monkeys in this forest land. By the commencement of the spring season variety of butterflies are present in the forest area. Apart from the waterfalls trekking to Kumban hill and Athikkode hill is a favourite spot. During the summer season, there is only one trekking once a week. After half an hours journey you will reach into Thonnikuzhy waterfall. After traversing through Thonnikuzhy one will get into Kargil lake. One will find a different feel and scenery on reaching the lake. On moving forward you may find Pullipara, Manalkuzhi, Anakuzhi, Pathikuzhi and Vanchikuzhi waterfalls. Kakkad ecotourism is spread over the 134-hectare land.
