Thrissur Pooram is the most famous colorful festival in Kerala. It has been celebrated over two centuries now. Thrissur is the cultural capital of Kerala. This beautiful district has many academies like Kerala Sahitya Academy, Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy etc. More than that the biggest and colorful temple festival called Thrissur Pooram is here. It is participated and conducted by the people across all over the barriers of religion and caste. People all around the world love to watch Thrissur Pooram. It is celebrated according to Malayalam calendar in the month of Medam. This falls in April-may months.

The upcoming Thrissur Pooram is on 25th to 26th of April 2018. The locals in Thrissur is already in that festive mood. Even foreigners come to see this mind-blowing colorful festival. This festival is known as the Pooram of all Poorams’ and takes place at Vadakkumnathan Temple. The ruler of Kochi, Sakthan Thampuran organized the celebrations of Thrissur Pooram. This festival is the rare treat of the eyes and ears.

Thrissur Pooram is the gathering of God and Goddess. There are 10 participants of Thrissur Pooram they are: Thiruvambady, Paramekkavu, Nethilakkavu, Karamukku, Ayyanthole, Laloor, Choorakkattukavu, Chembukkavu, Panamukkumpally, Kanimangalam sastha.

The pooram has a good collection of elephants (more than 50) decorated with nettipattam (decorative Thrissur Pooramgolden headdress), strikingly crafted Kolam, decorative bells, and ornaments. The elephants are one of the attractions in this pooram. The Kudamattam process above the elephant is famous. The elephant will be standing both the sides of the temple ground. One section of people sitting above elephants change their huge and dazzling umbrellas. Then the second section of people on the other side show next umbrellas and this is called kudamattom. Chenda melam, Pancha Vadyam adds more energy to this festival.

‘Firework’ is another attraction. Display of firework is really beautiful and stunning. You can see different types and patterns of firework in different colors.This amazing display of fireworks is held in the heart of Thrissur city. There are two competitors in the event Thiruvambadi and Paremekkavu. The winner is announced on the next day. Thrissur is one of the best tourist places in Kerala.
